Halloween worm dirt cups

I found this fantastic recipe for grape-flavoured worms that look so realistic!! It was Halloween party time so a perfect reason to make these creepy jelly worms. I bought some $2 black and white paper cups and made a chocolate dirt cup base for the worms to sit on. The most important note here is to use bendy straws because they give the worms a more realistic ridge look.

I admit that I used a packet mix for the pudding/mousse. I swear I never do that, it’s just that I was running out of time and had to put my zombie make up on haha. Normally I would have made my own chocolate mousse. I swear!

Jelly worms
- 1 package grape jelly/gelatin powder
- 3 envelopes gelatin sheets
- 3 cups boiling water
- 100 bendy plastic straws
- 1 tall slender 4 cup container (same height as extended straws)
- 3/4 cup whipping cream
- 4  drops blue and red and green food colouring

Dirt cups
- 2 packets of chocolate pudding/mousse
- 1 packet chocolate ripple or any plain chocolate biscuits
- 1 packet oreo biscuits

Method
The worms have to be done the day before as they need to chill overnight.
In a large bowl combine the jelly and gelatine. Add boiling water and stir until it’s dissolved. Chill in the fridge for 20 minutes or until lukewarm. While you’re waiting pull the bendy straws to full length and place in the container bendy tip down. Mix the cream and food colouring with the gelatine mix and pour into container, filling the straws. Chill in the fridge overnight or at least 8 hours.

Follow the directions on the the pudding/mousse packet and evenly pour into cups. Put in the fridge to chill. While you’re waiting put the biscuits into a bag and smash them into smaller chunks. Leave in the bag until you put the cups together.

Put some baking/parchment paper on a tray. Pull the straws from the container and pinch one end with your hand and with your other hand, squeeze down the length of the straw, pushing out the ‘worm’ onto the tray. Cover in the fridge for at least one hour.

Evenly distribute the chocolate biscuit ‘dirt’ onto the dirt cups and place 2-3 worms on top. The worms will last about 2 hours, if they last that long!
